McClatchy has announced the promotion of four of its publishers to newly created regional positions supervising its 30 local media companies. Among those elevated was Sara Glines, publisher of Raleigh's News & Observer.

In her new role as regional publisher for the Carolinas Regiona, which she'll assume April 3, Glines will lead the News & Observer, the Charlotte Observer and the Durham Herald-Sun in North Carolina. In South Carolina she will supervise and lead The (Rock Hill) Herald, The (Columbia) State, The (Hilton Head) Island Packet, The Beaufort Gazette and The (Myrtle Beach) Sun News.

The move is the latest in a series of realignments that have regionalized or centralized McClatchy's audience, production, HR and finance divisions, streamlining the company's legacy print operations and refocusing resources on accelerating the company's digital transformation.

In this new structure, local market publishers and general managers will report to the four regional publishers. Glines and the three other regional publishers will report to Mark Zieman, McClatchy's vice president of operations.
