NCPA, media organizations and Reporters Committee urges local police department in North Carolina to drop charges against journalist

In co-signing a letter drafted by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press to the Graham Police Department concerning the arrest of Alamance News reporter Tomas Murawski, The NCPA and a coalition of 26 media organizations are urging that an obstruction charge against Murawski be dropped, that the Police Department offer a public explanation, and that it take further steps to protect reporters engaged in lawful newsgathering in Graham.

Tomas Murawski, a reporter for the Alamance News, was arrested after being ordered to leave the street where he was photographing law enforcement’s response to a march to Alamance County polls on Oct. 31. Police charged Murawski with resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer.
